Jim Wilmesher is the Colorado State Legislative Board
Chairman and Legislative Representative for Brotherhood of
Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Division #256 out of
Denver, Colorado.
Elected as Chairman in October 2008, Jim is beginning his work to
promote safety and rail legislation for his members in the State of
Colorado. He has been
interested in pursuing legislative matters since his initial trip to
Washington, DC with his predecessor, Chairman emeritus Michael L.
Weston.
Mr. Wilmesher hired out on the Santa Fe
Railroad in 1991 in Richmond, CA, and became a locomotive engineer
and BLET member in February of 1993.
He transferred to Denver, CO in December 1993, to locate
closer to his family.
His union career began in 2001 as Legislative Representative.
Jim stepped up his legislative duties in 2004 when elected to
serve as Secretary-Treasurer for the Colorado State Legislative
Board.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
Geology from the University of Missouri and subsequently was
employed by the United States Geological Survey in Menlo Park, CA,
studying earthquakes along the San Andreas Fault.
His interest in trains and the need to provide for his new
family led him to hire out on the Santa Fe Railway in July 1991.
His interests in geology, hunting and
fishing, and the outdoors accompanied by the chance to relocate
closer to his family in Missouri, led to his move to Colorado in
1993. Jim, his wife Kay,
and his two teenage daughters reside in the south suburb of Denver,
Centennial, Co.
