Ravenna Pool Trip Rate Implementation Q&A

Q. What is the trip rate amount?

A. It is currently $202.81 for both working and deadheading. Working pays an additional $5.00 for certification pay.

Q. When does overtime start?

A. For runs of 130 miles or less it begins after 8 hours and 5 minutes. For runs exceeding 130 miles the excess miles must be run off as before. Calculate the time from your current charts and then add 5 minutes to get the start time for overtime.

Q. Is there a flip trip rate?

A. No. Deadheading to Ravenna and working back will pay two complete trip rates.

Q. If I am called for a programmed side trip, do the miles added by the side trip have to be run off before going on overtime?

A. Yes, but only if you actually make the side trip. If you do not make the side trip, you only have to run off the actual miles run. That is why it is important to use code FE and explain the route run and also enter the actual miles correctly on the timeslip.

Q. If I am deadheading and then the call is changed to combined service in route, is it still OK to claim the deadhead and combined service as two separate claims?

A. No. There is no additional payment due under trip rates except for certification pay (CP) which is not paid on a straight deadhead.

Q. Does working into and out of Hastings still pay two trips?

A. Yes. This will pay two trip rates.

Q. How will short turn around service at Ravenna be paid now?

A. It will depend on what is done. If you go out one or more times and then deadhead home without tying up at Ravenna, the payment will be one trip rate plus overtime after 8 hours, 5 minutes. If you tie up (get a room) between the short turnaround service and the deadhead it will pay two trip rates. If you go out one or more times and then work a train to Lincoln it will pay two complete trip rates.

Q. Can I still get a 2B second day claim for short turnaround service?

A. No.

Note: Because all short turn miles and 2B claims were averaged into the pool miles used to figure trip rates the initial impact would have been that short turnaround service would all be done for one trip rate only. The General Chairman negotiated the special provision that allows two trip rates if you perform short turnaround service and also work a train home.
